RPL Application Support
Recognition of Prior Learning

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is an assessment process where a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) reviews a person’s prior learning, work experience and supporting evidence to determine whether those skills and knowledge meet the requirements of a particular qualification or unit of competency.
Potential Benefits of RPL

Potentially Reduce Repeated Study
Where your evidence is sufficient and relevant, RPL may reduce the need to repeat training you have already effectively completed through prior work experience or study. The actual assessment timeframe, recognition outcome and any further training requirements will depend on the RTO’s assessment process.
RPL allows your existing skills and experience to be formally assessed against the requirements of a qualification. Depending on the outcome, you may receive recognition for some or all relevant units, or you may be asked to provide further evidence, complete an interview, undertake a practical assessment or complete gap training.
-
Assessment timeframe depends on the evidence provided and the RTO process
-
Recognition may be granted for some or all relevant units, subject to RTO assessment

Potentially Reduce Study Costs
RPL may be a cost-effective option where your prior experience and evidence meet the requirements of the relevant qualification. Actual costs and any savings will depend on the qualification, RTO fees, evidence requirements and whether further assessment or training is required.
In some cases, applicants may not need to complete the full course. However, RTO assessment fees, administration fees, qualification issuance fees, service fees or other case-specific costs may apply.
-
Possible cost savings compared with full course enrolment, depending on the case
-
Service fees and RTO-related fees are explained before proceeding
-
Flexible payment arrangements may be available, depending on the service and case

Simplify the Application Preparation Process
RPL may help reduce unnecessary repeat learning where your existing skills and evidence meet the relevant requirements. Some steps may be completed remotely, but the RTO may still require further evidence, interviews, practical assessment or additional training.
The process focuses on gathering and presenting evidence of your skills and experience. We assist with document preparation, evidence organisation and application support; however, the RTO is responsible for assessment and may request additional information or assessment activities.
-
Remote document preparation and communication may be available

Procedures - steps
Initial Skills and Evidence Review
We can review your initial work history, qualifications and available evidence to discuss whether an RPL application may be worth considering. This initial review does not represent RTO approval and does not guarantee any assessment outcome.
If the Matter Appears Suitable for Further Preparation
If your background appears suitable for further preparation, we will explain the target qualification, evidence requirements, service scope and next steps. Any formal assessment and final decision will be made by the relevant RTO.
Prepare and Submit Supporting Evidence
We assist you in organising relevant supporting evidence, such as employment records, reference letters, work samples, photos, videos, licences, prior qualifications or other documents. The RTO will determine whether the evidence is sufficient and relevant.
RTO Assessment of Evidence
We help organise and compile your evidence against the target qualification requirements. The relevant RTO will then assess the evidence in accordance with its assessment process. The assessment may result in recognition, requests for further evidence, practical assessment, interviews, gap training or other requirements.
Outcome and Qualification Issuance, if Requirements Are Met
If the RTO determines that you meet the requirements of the relevant units or qualification, the RPL assessment process may be finalised in accordance with the RTO’s procedures.
